Varanger Peninsula National Park

The summer

The long bright summer nights under the midnight sun let you forget time and place, here it is only you and nature. The open expanse of landscape extends as far as the eye can see. If you walk further, you will eventually encounter rivers, fishing lakes, valleys and marshy terrain. You will be able to encounter reindeer, elk, wolverine, lynx, mountain fox and red fox and a bustling bird life on your trek. Here you can try your luck fishing for trout or char in the fishing lakes. Or just enjoy the silence and the beautiful landscape.

Winter

The winters here are long, but with relatively nice temperatures as the peninsula is surrounded by sea on both sides. In early winter, it is dark most of the day, and the northern lights dance across the sky at regular intervals. 

In mid-January, the sun slowly returns and the days become a little and a little brighter everyday. Then you can look beyond the horizon to see the blanket of snow that has settled over the landscape and meets the sky in the distance. The landscape at this time of year invites to miles of skiing in a terrain that is easy and nice to walk.
